We've had another fantastic week of learning in Penguins class and we were very excited to see the snow towards the end of the week! We will try to update you as soon as possible regarding any school closure and we will send remote learning on Class Dojo as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.

In English this week we have continued writing our re-tell of The Invisible, looking specifically at using a variety of openers in our writing to avoid repetition. We thought of different openers we could use to create our own word mat and practised using these writing the end of our story. We then completed our independent write trying our best to include all of the skills we've learned this week. Miss Smith was very impressed with our ability to write on our own, including lots of the key vocabulary discussed - so much progress from Autumn Term, well done!

In Maths this week we have moved onto Subtraction which we found tricky last term. We started the week subtracting 1s from a 2 digit number using a number line which we all mastered really well! We then moved onto subtracting multiples of 10 and lots of us spotted the pattern that only the tens column changed. This meant we could do most of the problems mentally!

At the end of the week we put our learning together and attempted subtracting a 2 digit number from a 2 digit number, subtracting the ones first, then the tens. Next week, we will be looking at how to do this when regrouping is required in questions such as:   32 - 17 For this, we will use dienes and the number line method.

In Science this week we have looked at the life cycle of a human. We learned scientific language such as baby, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and elderly. We observed a human life cycle and discussed the changes a human goes through during their life. We learned that we get taller, we learn to be more independent and learn to walk and talk.

We really enjoyed our Art lesson this week, looking at the famous artist Van Gogh. After learning about him as an artist we focused on one of his famous painting - Sunflowers. We discussed the different elements of this piece and practised drawing the different elements including the vase and different shapes/sizes of sunflowers.
