It has been so lovely to welcome the children back after the winter break. They all came back eager to learn and gave 100% in all their learning.

English

This week, we have started with a new text 'The Bear and the Scary night'. We focused on lots of book talk to help us unpick the text and understand the structure.  We answered VIPERS questions, used talk for writing to retell the story orally and role played it too.

Maths

We have started to look at measure, with a focus on length and height.

We looked at using non standard units to measure objects and compared these using the language of long, longer, longest and short, shorter and shortest.

Art

In art this week, we have started our new topic 'sculpting'. This week we focused on the work of Michelle Reader, who makes recycled sculpture from unusual materials. In doing so, we designed and made our own sponge monsters using a variety of resources and materials. We had so much fun!

RE

In RE, we discussed the question, what is a sacred book? We talked about different, religious holy books and learned that these contain lots of different stories. We also shared what sacred books we know.

Just a reminder, homework will begin from Monday 9th January and reading books will be sent home on Friday 13th January. Spelling we commence on Monday 16th January.

Have a lovely weekend.
