What a wonderful first week back we had at Waterside. The children have come back to school focused and were certainly tired by Friday. I think the first week back shocked our systems after two weeks off.
This week, some families in our wonderful school community have begun fasting as part of Ramadan. At Waterside, we have already completed learning with all children about Ramadan and what was magical was the children asked each other some excellent questions. At Waterside, our fasting policy is online, and we ask that any Year 5 and Year 6 pupils that choose to participate in all/ or some of the fasting days – write to school and provide an emergency snack. This is to ensure we look after your children and medically make sure they are well whilst in our care. We kindly ask for Year 6 during SATS week- Week commencing 13th May that parents consider the suggestion to not participate in fasting during those days to ensure full concentration and for them to shine and achieve the results they thoroughly deserve.
To end Ramadan, we are going to host an EID party as this is an important observance for many of our families. As children may potentially be off from school either Monday 3rd June or Tuesday 4th June. Children are entitled to take one religious day off for this celebration, any other absence would be unauthorised. If there are any changes in days, we will confirm closer to the time.
As a school we are looking to host a family EID party on Friday 7th June 2019 – 3.30 – 4.30pm. This will be ran by the school and PSFA and will offer the opportunities for our entire school community to come along and enjoy in food and drink together to share such special times. If you are willing to help support the school by cooking or providing some home-made cultural food, we would be extremely grateful. The PSFA will cover ingredients costs if required. Please pop into the office. Any questions email me on email@example.com
Should you have any other questions – pop and see me!
