Freezing and melting
Today in reception we have been exploring the snow and discussing the process of freezing and melting. We think that the snow and ice will melt because the sun is out. We will check back later to see if we are correct!
Letter formation
Today in literacy we have been focusing on forming the letters c, an and o. We began by tracing the letters before having a go at forming them ourselves. This is a real focus currently as the children are building up to being able to write captions and full sentences. We love writing in reception!
Number formation
Today the children have been working on their number formation of numbers within 5. They had a go at tracing the numbers and then some children were able to write the numbers independently! We are super at forming our numbers.
Music in sound pots
This week in sound pots the children were exploring different actions which they could use for the songs they were singing. They really enjoyed using actions to help them remember the words!
Amazing maths!
Today in maths we have been exploring how to practically find two parts and name the whole up to 5. Some of us were also able to answer a reasoning question relating to the composition of numbers up to 5. We are super mathematicians!
Hanukkah discussion!
We looked at pictures relating to Hanukkah and discussed what each of the images show/represent. The children all knew that Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 days!
Role play - Whatever Next!
We have been looking at the story Whatever Next! and today we used masks and props to role play different parts of the story. We pretended to be baby bear getting ready for his trip to the moon, baby bear in his rocket ship, baby bear and owl having a picnic on the moon and then mother bear…
Repeating patterns!
In reception we have been looking at repeating patterns. Today the children had a go at completing a repeating pattern, creating their own repeating pattern and spotting the mistake in a repeating pattern.

Talk for writing - Whatever next
Today in reception we read the story Whatever next! and then retold the story through pictures and actions. The children loved coming up with their own ideas for how to retell the story through drawings.
Pre writing shapes
Today we practiced our pre writing shapes. This will help us to develop our writing skills and helps to ensure we know how to hold our pencil properly. We love writing in reception!
