Implementation of our curriculum
Our curriculum will be implemented with our intentions as the drivers behind our actions.
Our curriculum intent is implemented throughout all subjects and curriculum activities ensuring a broad and balanced learning experience is provided for every child at Waterside. Clear strategic planning allows the curriculum to be unique, adapting to our school and our children’s needs. Always having high expectations in all areas enables the best possible outcomes and learning journey. Across all subject areas we demonstrate a breadth of vocabulary and develop strong cross-curricular links.
Through the careful strategic planning – daily, weekly and medium term planning is responsive to children’s needs, from Early Years where they demonstrate ‘Planning in the moment’ and across the school in maths, daily planning and assessment takes place to ensure that teaching and learning is well-matched to learners.
Our success criteria approach of Bronze, Silver and Gold challenges ensure that learning and outcomes show progress and challenge – with our school ethos of ‘Going for Gold’ whereby Gold is the National Standard in that particular learning objective and standard. Challenge for the more-able and higher attaining group of children are also provided in our platinum and Diamond challenges. All children are secure in their starting points.
Our whole school team approach strengthens our ethos and vision as we work together to reflect upon our curriculum and share outcomes driving forward next steps. We don’t confuse coverage with progress when assessing. Learning is measured through careful analysis of application of skills across the curriculum; showing how acquisition of knowledge is enhanced dramatically by expectations to evidence quality thinking and demonstrate individual understanding.

Our curriculum is ambitious for every child and is specifically designed to ensure that all children gain the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. This enables our pupils with Special Educational Needs to thrive within our setting. To enable this our lessons are fully inclusive, enhanced by adaptive teaching which is supported by range of resources. These have been carefully identified to ensure access to the full curriculum. At Waterside we also supplement children's learning through high quality interventions which enable children to revisit prior knowledge and help to prepare children for future learning.
