What a wonderful week in Seal Class!
Everyone has worked extremely hard and continued to show friendship, which is our value this half term.
In English this week, we have begun to focus on a new writing genre - non-chronological reports. To begin we looked at the key features of a non-chronological report, including title, introductory paragraph, subheadings, photos and technical vocabulary. We then moved on to writing about a Tawny Owls appearance, linked to our story of Owl babies. We focused on using nouns and adjectives to describe.
In Maths this week, we have been continuing our work on addition. To the start the week we secured our understanding of tens frames. Then we begun to focus on Fact Families using part-whole models. We learnt that the parts could be added in any order and the whole would remain the same. e.g.
10 = 7+3
10 = 3+7
In Geography this week we have been focusing on the physical features in Stoke-on-Trent. We learnt that physical features are natural things that we see around us in our world. We labelled the physical features we could see photos of Stoke-on-Trent. Once we had do this week looked at maps and aerial images. We found that some features (hills) were more difficult to see on a map or aerial images because we were looking from above. We then continued our learning using Google Earth - we found that we could see all physical features on here
In Science this week we began to learn the animals groups. We found that each animal group had different key features such as birds must have feathers. We used our understanding of this to sort animals into the correct groups.
This week the children will have come home with their phonics reading book. Please ensure they read this each day and sign in their diaries.
Have a wonderful weekend.
