Phonics

It is time to recap our phase 2 and phase 3 words. Yesterday i asked you to make some flashcard with the sound you were struggling with. Can you get them out and practice these too :)

Recap your memory words.

Look at the 100 HFW.

For your reading this morning i would like you to read your reading books on bugclub. We have focused on phase 3 sounds and memory words this week. Can you use your new learning when reading. See if you can spot the memory words and segment/blend new words.

Today we are focusing on writing cvc/cvcc words and captions. Some children are still practicing their pre-writing shapes. It is so important they can form these shapes before writing. If they are still struggling with these, make this a big focus for today. Everybody is learning at a different pace so please don't worry if your child is still writing the shapes.

If they can write the pre writing shapes you can move on to writing cvc/cvcc words. Look at the pictures below. Can you say what the picture is and write it down. You need to segment and blend the word and write it independently. The pictures all include phase 3 sounds that we have looked at in the past 2 weeks. There are some digraphs and trigraphs in the words so keep an eye out and really listen for the sounds.

Once you have written the words for the pictures can you go back to the start and read your writing. We must get into the habit of always re reading what we write as this is a skill you will always use in year 1 smiley

If your child is confident with this please move them on to writing the following captions. Again, handwriting is a big focus, concentrate on each letter. As well as your handwriting see if you can write the caption as it is told to you without looking at the caption for support.
