This morning in phonics, I would like you to recap Phase 2 sounds and Phase 3 sounds. Before recapping, the sounds ask your child if they can tell you what a digraph is (2 letters that make 1 sound). In our phase 3 sounds the children will come across a trigraph.
This is new learning for some of the children, ask them if they know what a trigraph is (3 letters that make one sound)
Point to the sounds from the cards below and ask them to say the sound. Correct any misconceptions along the way.
Now it is time to read our memory words. The children are very good and these and have picked up Phase 3 memory words really well. You will know which words your child struggles on from yesterday so focus on these words, as repetition is key. Below I have attached a song with Phase 2 and Phase 3 Memory words to support learning.
The children need to be able to write their memory words so they can start to write labels and captions. Remember in reception class we write Pre-cursively and the letters need to start on the line. As we mentioned yesterday presentation is key at Waterside so please model the word and let them copy the word correctly. When writing point out ascenders and descenders for the children so they know which letters stand tall and which letters fall.
Well done everybody. I can not wait to see some great writing.
