At Waterside our Maths Curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum 2014. We ensure that the needs of each child are met through our well differentiated and progressive curriculum where each child is able to work within or above their year group expectations.
Learning is centered around the use of concrete manipulatives and pictorial representations before moving learners onto more abstract and formal methods. All objectives are taught through skills, varied fluency, problem solving and reasoning to ensure depth of concepts.
To ensure that all children are able to access the curriculum, we follow a progress success criteria. This ensures that starting points for children meet their individual needs, but also allow children to make progress and given further challenges to deepen their understanding.
Our maths success criteria ranges from Copper (Working below their year group) to Blue Diamond (Working well above their year group).
Daily planning and assessment takes place to ensure that learning and teaching meets the needs of all learners.
