In our Nursery we focus primarily on the Prime Areas of the Development Matters Document:
The prime areas of learning are:
- Communication and Language (C+L)
- Physical Development (PD)
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
However, we also provide learning opportunities and activities for the specific areas of learning (Maths, Literacy, Expressive arts and design) and this is done in a fun and engaging way within our classroom and outdoor provision.
We have set topics as a guideline for the year. However, we also encourage independent learning and for the children to take the lead of their own learning so we make our planning adaptable to in the moment. All of our topics and learning are taught through Nursery Rhymes and simple poems, this is key for the children's Communication and Language Development.
Each morning and afternoon our Ducklings split into their Keyworker Group. In our key worker groups we aim to allow the children to grow in confidence, learn new vocabulary and to embed their learning.
We begin each Keyworker session with a song and the opportunity to sharing news or stories and discuss our thoughts, feelings and emotions. We then explore what day of the week it is, what the weather is like and what season it is.
