December 2017

Dear Parents & Guardians,

As we approach the end of another busy term I would just like to outline a number of events and activities which will be taking place. Some activities are Christmas Specific; some activities are winter themed to allow every child to participate. These are as follows:

CHRISTMAS SPECIFIC

  • Whoops a Daisy Angel Show – Tuesday 12th December FS1, FS1/2 & FS2 9.15am
  • The Landlords Cat Show – Tuesday 12th December Year 1 and Year 2 – 2pm
  • Wednesday 13th December – 3.30pm – Come and sing Carols and songs with your children around the Christmas tree and enjoy a mince pie, and refreshment from 3.30pm. We also have a special singer – Miss Bailey – Please come and Support us.
  • Thursday 14th December – Christmas Film Night 3.30 – 5.30pm
  • Monday 18th December 2016Church Visit for All at Waterside The school will be visiting Church for a service. At this service we will share the Christmas Story, sing some songs and children will be asked to say reflections to represent our school. No one will be asked to worship or act out and this is a cultural visit to gain awareness of the essence of Christmas. All children will be covered by the local trip permission. Should you wish your child to not go then you need to write to school and express the reasons as to why. The content will be in line with the religious education curriculum and National Curriculum coverage.
  • WINTER SPECIFIC FOR WHOLE SCHOOL PARTICIPATION
  • Monday 11th December – Winter Wonderland Party 5.00 – 7pm. A separate flyer will be sent out.
  • Monday 11th December – Wear your own Winter Clothes / Christmas Jumper Day.
  • Friday 15th December – Y3,4,5 & 6 – Polar Express. A separate letter regarding costumes and tickets has been sent home.

RE Curriculum

Children will learn the Christmas story from a Christian and Islamic perspective as these are the most predominate religions in school. They will compare and contrast the stories to identify the differences and similarities to embed personal choice of religion and tolerance. Children will then be able to participate in class activities which relate to their personal religion so it is inclusive for all children. We have taught this way for the past 4 years and the outcomes have been fantastic from children and gives a real sense of pride and respect for our Waterside Community. All of the learning is in line with the National curriculum that is expected of school to teach as a statutory component of education.

I will assume that your child is taking part in all these curriculum activities unless I receive written confirmation from you to the contrary. These activities are part of our Religious Education Curriculum and in line with the British values we promote and embed.

School closes on Tuesday 20th December at 1.30pm. This is an earlier finish time.

The rest of the day will be spent on staff training to ensure that the school is ready for the Spring Term and further developments are professional developed to ensure your children have the most outstanding education they can.

School re opens on Wednesday 3rd January at 8.30m for Early Readers. 8.50 for the start of the curriculum day.

Thank you for supporting these events and I wish you all a restful Christmas break and I hope your time off is filled with love and happiness. From all the team at Waterside we wish all families, children and the community of Joiner Square a Happy New Year for 2018. I hope it is full of celebration and special memories for all.

Kind thanks as always

Mrs Knowles and the Waterside Team
