Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely lunch and had a break playing, please remember that our Early Years curriculum is play based so we do learn through play so it is okay for your children to build and role play with their toys etc...
Now it is time for maths, just as we set previous home learning we want the children to practise their counting, depending on your child this could be to ten, twenty and beyond. Then practise them counting from any number such as saying 6 and your child says 7,8,9,10 etc... It is an excellent skill for the children and their mental maths and is something we work on everyday.
Now check your child's number recognition, you should remember from our bubble closure which numbers your child know and don't know, please continue to practise this and address any misconceptions.
Now we would want the children to practise their number formation making sure all numbers are correctly formed and all the same size, begin with numbers to 5, then 10 and then 20. I have attached the number rhymes to help the children.
Now it is time for the children to recap shapes both 2D and 3D shapes, you may want to do a shape hunt in the house or garden, the children should be able to say the shape name and also its properties and find them in the environment.
Our focus for maths today is 'prepositions' or 'positional language', for the children to be able to put objects:
in, on, under, in front, behind, next to and beside
and to also direct others using the mathematical language above. I have attached to videos for the children to use to recap their knowledge of positional language.
Please get a box and a teddy and direct your child using the prepositions to see if they have any misconceptions which they may have. If your child is confident see if your child can direct you with positional language, at school we sometimes do the wrong thing which the children asked to see if they tell us and redirect us.
Please send us lots of photographs of your maths learning today
