Good afternoon! I hope you all had a lovely lunch together and your brain is ready for this afternoon and its learning. It maths again and now you know our routine, first is counting and then counting from any number. We like to count actively so we jump, clap and stamp and we count. The children also love number songs so I have attached one below which we love to sing at school
Now it is for number recognition, you can do this as creatively as you like, the children could go on a number hunt and see what numbers they can find in the house or you could even hide numbers around the house for the children to find. Any fun and interactive way is best You should now be working on the numbers your child is unsure of, begin at numbers 0-5 then 5-10 and then beyond 10. You may want your child to get you that certain number of objects to correspond the numeral to show their understanding on the number.
Now to recap 2D/3D Shapes, if your child is confident with 2D shapes the look at 3D shapes if not continue to develop their 2D shape knowledge.
Today we will be focusing on weight, it is something we haven't done yet in Reception so the children will be building on their previous knowledge from Nursery. As we are unsure of the children's knowledge you may need to explain concepts further and more in depth, any issues then please let me know and I will help as I can.
We want the children to understand the concept of heavy and light, below is a video and a power point to support you with teaching the children this concept or reminding them of it.
We would like the children to go around the house finding objects which are heavy and light, you can put the heavy objects one side and light objects the other. You may even draw a chart and get the children to draw the objects, I have attached a chart should you wish to print it off.
If your child is confident at sorting objects by light and heavy they may want to order the objects from the heaviest to the lightest and could even think abstractly, what objects can you think of that aren't in the house which could be the lightest and heaviest? Make sure you take lots of pictures I cannot wait to see them
