Now you have done some counting and got your brain and body ready for learning I want the children to do some subitising:
Subitising is where the children just say how many of objects they can see using their mental maths knowledge and understanding of patterns, the children shouldn't need to count the objects.
Today we are looking at number bonds to 5, so all of the ways we can make 5 using different numbers of objects.
Using objects can the children make as many ways as they can to make the number 5 e.g. 4 apples and 1 banana, 5 teddy bears, 3 cars and 2 trucks etc...
Can the children then write the addition sum to match what they have made e.g. 4+1=5, 5+0=5, 3+2=5
Can the children complete the other arm of the robot to make the number 5?
Make sure that you send your numbers and patterns work to your class portfolio and any other work that you may have forgotten before you begin your imagination time slot for you to play and learn through play.
