After being voted for by their teachers, junior librarians from each class joined Miss Davies-Moore and Mrs Acar for a trip to our local library. The children loved walking up to the library and seeing all of the local sights. When we arrived, we were greeted and couldn't wait to get started! We were lucky enough to have a guided tour of the library and we saw all of the amazing books on offer there. We learnt about how the books are organised and how they are labelled to help readers to find their book.
We also completed a challenge using the book codes to find a given book. We loved using the code system to find the books and bring them back to our teachers.
We also got to read some of the newest books on offer and were given library cards.
The children said:
"I know how to organise my class library now."-Lily
"It was so fun! I loved finding the correct book."-Alfie
"I really liked the Wolf story that Chris read to us on the carpet."-Zara
Our next steps are applying an organisation system in our school library areas. We have decided to use specific categories and although this is already in place, the junior librarians are going to work together to tidy up the school reading areas. We have been truly inspired by our trip!
Thank you to Stoke Library and Chris specifically for your time and kindness in showing us around. We cannot wait to inspire our friends to keep reading for pleasure!
