Learning a foreign language is an opportunity to open our horizons to other cultures. At Waterside, we aim to open pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world through our French lessons. We aim to enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers. We hope to provide opportunities for children to communicate for practical purposes including through pen pals. Over the course of study, children will speak, read and write French with increasing confidence, fluency and pronunciation. This may be through other creative means, including song, poem or rhyme to embed new vocabulary. Our aim is to prepare children for progression into high school, where they will continue with a Modern Foreign Language (MFL) into their Key Stage Three education.
