Previous Bubble Closure Home Learning
Thursday 19th November 2020
Good Morning Everyone, I feel like I have done a full day already and it is only 9 o'clock Every day we will put your home learning here for you to do, we will try and make sure it is on the night before so you can see what the next days learning is, please send photographs of your child and their work through class dojo or you can email your work to Miss Davies- email@example.com or Miss Mayer- firstname.lastname@example.org. We are all in this together and if you need anything then please message or email us
When the children come into school every morning we begin the day by practising our name writing, some of the children are copying their name and others are writing them independently. The children always practise their name writing on the line as this is the best way to develop handwriting and we write all of our letters pre cursively like the letters below obviously except the first letter of their name.
Pre cursive handwriting is difficult and it takes lots of practise but the children are working really hard to form their letters correctly, each letter begins on the line in one fluid movement. The video below is something which we use as an aid for the children and this may help you at home also, we all want to be a Jedi Master at writing!
After practising writing our names we then always talk about what day it is, what month of the year it is and what the weather is like outside. The children are fantastic at this now; so to develop this further you may want to ask what day it was yesterday? and what month it will be next? etc... We do love a song in reception so I have put our Days of the week song and Months of the year song below for your children to practise.
Now it is time for our phonics session, where we learning how to read and how to write, to begin get your child to practise all of the sounds above, they will also be able to tell you that two letters which make one sound is called a 'digraph'! If you find your child is struggling with any of the sounds please keep practising these with them daily as it will really help Next we daily practise the 'memory words', these are sometimes also referred to as 'tricky words' but in Reception nothing is too tricky for us! Memory words are words which you cannot sound out you just have to know them! I have put them below again get your child to read them to you and practise those which the children do not know.
Now the children are beginning to know all of the sounds of the alphabet we are now working on letter names of the alphabet just like the song 'abcd', the children know that just like the 'alphablocks' that every sound has a name and a sound. Using the picture of the 'alphablocks' below randomly point to a character and ask the children to say its letter name and its letter sound.
If your child is finding this difficult below is a video which can help the children to remember the letter names.
Thursday morning is our writing session, our writing tasks our different depending on each child and their writing ability so please use your own knowledge and choose which task your child can complete, our writing tasks are independent activities so support your child when needed.
Some children would have been asked to practise their pre writing shapes and forming all of the shapes correctly, I have put these shapes below and we teach them in that order, all children can do all of the top line of shapes but a few children are still working on the bottom line of shapes in particular a square and a triangle.
Some children would have been asked to practise their letter formation today and the focus for today was tall ladder letters which are the brown letters below. These are tall letters called 'ascenders', pre cursive letters start on the line in one fluid motion.
Then some children would have been writing words independently, the children use their phonics skills to listen to the sounds in the words and write them down, again written pre cursively on the line. The children are currently writing words which contain 3 or 4 sounds, sometimes the children need to listen very carefully to what sound comes at the end as they sometimes write this incorrectly. I have put a picture below as an 'I Spy' activity, what pictures can they see and can they write it down?
And just like that it is lunch time! Have a lovely dinner time, maybe the children could help to make lunch today, I wonder what we would have had today?
I cannot wait to see all of your home learning from this morning and I will put this afternoons learning on for you shortly
I hope you all had a lovely lunch time and ate something delicious and had some time to play with your toys and have a break I played with my dog Bear, he is very happy to have his Mummy home as you all know he sulks when I go to school every morning.
After lunch time we check the weather again, is it different to what it was this morning? I thought we were going to have a day full of rain but it was nice to see some sunshine and blue sky.
Now it is time for our Maths session, to begin each maths session we always count to 20 and we then count from any number so if you say 6 the children should then say 7,8,9... etc... It is a very important skill for the children to be able to count from any number as it will help with many skills later on.
We then do our number recognition, depending on your child that can be numbers 0-5, 0-10 or even 0-20. Just like phonics earlier any numbers your child are unsure of then please continue to practise these daily
We then go over our 2D shapes, these are flat shapes, the children should be able to name the shapes and talk about their properties e.g. It has 3 sides.
For our maths session today we want the children to go on a 3D shape hunt; 3D shapes are solid shapes, what 3D shapes can they find in the house or even the garden? The children should be able to find a sphere, cube, cuboid, cone, cylinder and pyramid, like the 2D shapes the children should be able to name the shapes and some can talk about some of the properties. I cannot wait to see the photographs
Below is another video as an aid for the children to use.
Now the children may have told you but I have changed our role play to a post office, this afternoon we were going to play in it together and I am so disappointed we cannot do that today but I look forward to do it when we come back to school
So instead I thought as it has been a strange and unexpected day that the children can have a creative afternoon and they can create their own masterpiece with whatever you have available at home. That can be using crayons, paint, 3d materials, things from the garden, what ever you have. This afternoon is about having fun and being creative as I know some of your are feeling sad about not being at school today, I cannot wait to see your masterpieces!
Our curriculum is also play based and is the best way for the children to learn so please encourage imaginative play this could be with dolls, construction and many other things.
To end the day we always have a story, it is one of our favourite times of the day, as I cannot be with you to read I thought I would make an interactive story for you to enjoy together.
Just like that your first day of home learning is complete, it was a very busy day but tomorrow is Friday and I am so proud of you all, keep sending me your photographs and your work they have cheered me up as I have missed you! Have a lovely rest and have a lovely evening and if you need anything then please message us with anything
Lots of Love, Miss Davies & Miss Mayer
