Afternoon activity

This afternoon we are going to be looking at different animals habitats. Explain to your child what a habitat it (where an animal lives)

Our habitat is our home. There are 3 very important things to think about when we look at habitats.

Food - is there a place to put food and is there opportunity to find food by our homes.

Shelter - Will we be safe and dry from different weather conditions.

Somewhere safe - will they be protected from other animals and be able to have their babies there safely.

Do we have all of these things at home? Yes so it is a good place to live smiley

There are lots of different habitats for different animals. Certain animals look for certain features. A habitat could be hot or cold, big or small, and they could be on land or even underwater.

Look at the pictures below. Can you think of any animals that could live here?

a) a bird, insects, an owl, monkeys, koala's

b) polar bear, artic fox, wolf, seal

c) rabbit, squirrel, owl, fox, deer

d) fish, crabs, octopus, whales, dolphins

We have lots more habitats that we have not talked about. Did you find an animal for each habitat? Maybe you found more than one animal. Can you think of reason the animals would like their habitat?

Think about the weather, where they can shelter, and how they are protected.

You have all been amazing. Enjoy this story and I hope you have a great weekend :)
