UPDATES TO THE READING CURRICULUM AT WATERSIDE
We are currently updating the way we teach and assess reading at Waterside, from Year 1 to Year 6. This is to ensure that we are accurately assessing the children and offering them the tailored support they need to move their reading skills forwards.
Over the next few week I will be updating the reading pages of the website to keep you up to date with these changes. The changes will have minimal impact on the children in school or with their home readers, and are focused around the way the teachers complete their assessment of reading. So please, watch this space...
At Waterside, we value reading as one of the key building blocks a child needs to thrive in the world.
We have therefore split the teaching of reading into two parts.
In Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 the children are learning to become readers, whilst at Key Stage 2 they are becoming masters of reading.
Our Reading Champions
Mrs Donnellan, Assistant Head Teacher, is our reading champion for Foundation Stage.
Mrs Steele, Assistant Head Teacher, is our reading champion for reading at Key Stage 1 and 2.
