Guided Reading in Key Stage 1
All of the children in Key Stage 1 have two guided Reading sessions a week. Guided Reading is when an adult works with a small group of children - typically 6 in a group - and focuses on a text at the level the children are reading at. The children read the text and discuss what they have read. They then put into practice the skills they hav elearned suring their Reading Skills sessions and answer independently some questions based on the text. These range from simple retrieval questions, where the children have to find the answer on the page in front of them, to more complex questions which involve the children thinking 'between the lines' and putting themselves into the character's position.
